Trinity's Leaders

"My way toward the truth is to ask the right questions," said Socrates. Jesus answered him saying, "I am the way, the truth, and the life."

Don't Worry...Be Happy???

The other day in class, I heard someone make an interesting statement. We were discussing marriage and divorce, and I heard someone say that God wouldn't want me to be unhappy. While that probably isn't the exact statement, it captures the essence of what the person said. That got me to thinking. I wonder whether or not God wants us to be happy. Jesus tells us to take up our cross and follow him. The cross is most definitely a symbol of pain and suffering. It was not a happy thing to be put on a cross. So, what does that mean? Does Jesus desire for us happiness? Or, is it something else?

Well of course He wants us to be happy, but we don't make it easy for Him because we're stupid and think temporal things will make us happy. He's not going to fix our lives to make everything the way we like it, or where would we be? The point is that we should be happy with what He provides us, and not pine for things we shouldn't even want.

Kate,

You answered well. I especially liked this particular statement:
"because we're stupid." So true...sooooo ture!

Good point. That would kind of be transcending happiness I guess. Hence joyful. Yay.
