Is God Everywhere?
Brianna brought up the fact that their Bible study group had come to the conclusion that God is not omnipresent. Is that really true? If it is, then is God, in fact, a limited being? Since He cannot be everywhere at once, then He must by necessity be limited by space, right? What do you think? After a few people comment, I will proffer my thoughts.

Of corse God is everywhere! If we said that God was not omnipresent, it would be taking away his power of being everywhere, but also saying that he doesn't have control over that area in which he doesn't belong. I think by negating God's ablility to be everywhere, it not only lessons him as an all powerful being, but is an attempt to put limitations on God. Putting limitations on God and saying where he can and can not go is not only wrong, but unbiblical. God has control over all things, which includes good, evil... heaven and hell.
God is not everywhere. God is everywhere that he CHOOSES to be. God is not in hell. What is hell? Hell is defined as eternal damnation and separation from God. Moreover, God is not in the heart of a sinner. God moves into the heart once you have accepted him into you life. If He was already there, there would be no need for salvation.
I am not saying that God is limited by space, or anything else. God is everything that he CHOOSES to be and everywhere that he CHOOSES to be.
I agree with Noah. Like (I think) Augustine said, sin is lack of virtue, and hell is lack of God. But this very definition makes hell in essence a non-place and sin a non-action. If God is not in a place, that place does not exist--therefore no problem.
As for the sinner, just because we are far from God, doesn't mean that God is far from us. He is there, but that person's existence is negated until they turn to God.
And if hell is far from God, and the sinner is far from God, wouldn't that be to say that sinners are already in hell during their lives, since that is how hell is defined?
I'm totally with kelsey on this one. God most certainly is in Hell. He is not present in a personal, relational sense, however, He has to be present. I think to say God is everywhere he chooses to be is a cop out. He chooses to be everywhere, if we want to look at it that way. And for the record, I know noone will read this, but i had to say it.
